LEARN SLOVENE IN MARIBOR – GENERAL INFORMATION
At AMIKUM / IZS (Educational Center for Slovene language) you can learn Slovene effectively. We are specialized in teaching Slovene as a second foreign language. We offer individual courses of Slovene for foreigners and teach Slovene according to our own method and on the basis of our experience with foreigners from different countries.
Our experience teaches us that learning Slovene is not so difficult for foreigners who come from Slavic countries (Ex Yugoslavia, Russia, Bulgaria, Ukraine). As these languages are somehow familiar to the Slovene language, learners are able to learn and speak Slovene in a few months.
For foreigners who come from German and Roman areas (France, Italy, Germany, England) Slovene is harder and takes more time to master it.
Our courses are based on a personal approach. Individuals can learn Slovene at their own pace. Our courses are tailor made for the needs of learners: content wise and time wise.
We have conceived our courses of Slovene language for absolute beginners, and for those who have already mastered the basics but want to further improve their speaking, reading and writing skills.
WHO CAN LEARN SLOVENE AT AMIKUM / IZS?
The courses of Slovene language are appropriate for foreigners who live, study or work in Slovenia. They are also appropriate for foreigners who visit Slovenia for a short period of time (vacation, visiting relatives etc.). They can use their time to learn Slovene effectively.

LEARN SLOVENE – TYPES OF ONLINE COURSES
We offer the following courses of Slovene language: ♣ Language courses 1: 30 hour classical courses of Slovene language – basic and advanced (individual course and group course of 3 persons). ♣ Language courses 2: 20 or 30 hour special courses of Slovene language (individual and group course of 3 persons) ♣ Language course 3: Individual course of Slovene language by hours (only for individuals) ♣ Language course 4: Intensive individual course of Slovene language (only for individuals; 5 times per week from Monday to Friday, 1 hour per day)
LANGUAGE COURSES 1: 30 HOUR CLASSICAL COURSES OF SLOVENE LANGUAGE ONLINE – BASIC AND ADVANCED
The classical courses of Slovene language are designed for those who want to learn Slovene language in a steady manner. The courses consist of 30 hours, which take 15 weeks, that is 2 hours (120 minutes) per week.
The classical courses of Slovene language are meant for individuals, pairs and groups of 3 persons.
The classical courses are available for the next levels: A1, A2, B1/B2. Learners can choose between two levels of difficulty (basic and advanced) for levels A1 and A2. The basic level is meant for learners who want to learn the Slovene language for everyday use in life. The advanced level is meant for learners who want to learn Slovene language well, for living, study or work in Slovenia.
The date of the start of courses for individuals and pairs start in agreement with the professor.
The classical group courses start from 1st to 5th of the month (January, February, March, April, August and September).

* It is possible to have 3 hours per week for individuals. We also offer intensive course for individuals 5 hours per week Monday to Friday (200 EUR/week).
CONTENTS OF THE SLOVENIAN LANGUAGE COURSE – LEVEL A1
During the course you will learn: ♣ how to introduce yourself, ♣ how to establish social contacts, ♣ how to talk about your well-being, ♣ how to describe things, family, your working day, ♣ how to ask for help, ♣ how to invite or accept an invitation, ♣ how to advise or ask for advice, ♣ how to express your opinion, ♣ how to talk about your past, ♣ how to talk about your future plans, etc.
CONTENTS OF THE SLOVENIAN LANGUAGE COURSE – LEVEL A2
During the course you will learn: ♣ how to find information on activities in your free time, exhibitions in the media, ♣ how to understand simple instructions for use, ♣ how to buy tickets online, ♣ how to describe your day, your everyday housework, ♣ how to buy things (ask for the right product model, replace the product …), ♣ how to write about your everyday life, ♣ how to describe past experiences, ♣ how to understand simple texts on the topic of healthy lifestyle, etc.
CONTENTS OF THE SLOVENIAN LANGUAGE COURSE – LEVEL B1
During the course you will learn: ♣ how to obtain information about services (make bookings in hotels, make traveling arrangements in a travel agency, report lost baggage, documents, etc.), ♣ how to communicate with officials, ♣ how to complain about poor service, ♣ how to congratulate and express condolences, ♣ how to express satisfaction or dissatisfaction, ♣ how to express your interests, desires, etc.
CONTENTS OF THE SLOVENIAN LANGUAGE COURSE – LEVEL B2
During the course you will learn the following skills: ♣ how to write a curriculum vitae and a job application, ♣ how to socialize at work, ♣ how to praise, criticize, console, ♣ how to describe your feelings and emotional states, ♣ how to justify/substantiate, ♣ how to make suggestions, ♣ how to report, ♣ how to comment, ♣ how to discuss, ♣ how to use Slovenian phrases …

LANGUAGE COURSES 2: 20 AND 30 HOUR SPECIAL COURSES OF SLOVENE LANGUAGE ONLINE
The special courses of Slovene language are designed for different subgroups of learners, who want to learn Slovene faster (learners from Ex-Yugoslavia regions), who already studied Slovene language and want to repeat or upgrade their knowledge of the language or achieve special knowledge of different areas (syntax, grammar structures, advanced vocabulary, phrases, word formation and texts).
The special courses are: ♣ A1/A2/B1 – for Ex-Yugoslavia learners (the course is meant for foreigners from Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, for learners who want to study in Slovenia and for those who want to or already work in Slovenia. For future students who want to enroll into one of the faculties of medicine in Slovenia, or doctors who are looking for a job in Slovenia, we provide a special program (B2 level), which includes a lot of grammar exercises and texts from the medical field (vocabulary, terminology, phrases, communication with patients, examples of writing medical reports/findings, opinions, explanations, instructions after leaving the hospital etc.) ♣ A2/B1 – refresher course (the course is meant for learners who already studied the Slovene language in the past on level A1, A2 or B1, but think they need to refresh their knowledge, including grammar and speaking skills, and upgrade it. ♣ B2/C1 – Slovene syntax (the course is meant for students and others who want to learn syntax for writing seminars, diploma, master and doctoral theses). ♣ B1/B2 – grammar structures (the course is meant for students who already understand and speak Slovene and want to deepen their knowledge of Slovene grammar and other who simply want to improve their speaking skills. ♣ C1 – advanced texts and vocabulary (the course is meant for students who already speak Slovene and want to develop linguistic, sociolinguistical and pragmatic communication patterns, intended for high and advanced level of knowledge of Slovenian language as a foreign language, through active work with journalistic and artistic texts.
The courses consist of 20 or 30 hours, and take 10 or 15 weeks, that is 2 hours (120 minutes) per week.
The special courses of Slovene language are meant for individuals, pairs and groups of 3 learners. Only individual courses are possible for A2/B1 refresher courses, B2/C1 Slovene syntax courses and C1 advanced text and vocabulary courses.

Special courses of Slovene language, hours and rates
LANGUAGE COURSE 3: INDIVIDUAL COURSE OF SLOVENE LANGUAGE ONLINE BY HOURS
Modern life is sometimes overwhelming and individuals with busy work schedules often can not afford themselves to commit to language courses which last 30 hours and more, as this classical Slovene language courses for foreigners require a steady routine, which they can not have.
That is why at AMIKUM / IZS we offer also the individual course of Slovene language, which is adapted to the learner’s time capabilities as well as his previous knowledge of Slovene language.
The learner attains the knowledge of the language gradually, as the professor dedicates her time only to him. She adjusts the speed of learning, so that the learner can learn at his own pace. Any problems that appear when learning the language are solved promptly, therefore the learner progresses faster.

LANGUAGE COURSE 4: INTENSIVE INDIVIDUAL COURSE OF SLOVENE LANGUAGE ONLINE
The intensive course of Slovene language online for foreigners is carried out only individually and is meant for foreigners who want to attend the Slovene course for a shorter period of time (1 to 6 weeks), but want to learn every day.
The intensive course of the Slovenian language online is for those who: ♣ want to learn the basics of the Slovene language, ♣ want to learn Slovene quickly and intensively, ♣ want to refresh and improve the Slovenian language skills.
It is ideal for foreigners who come to Slovenia for a short period of time (family visits, holidays) and can improve their knowledge of Slovene in the meantime. It is also suitable for those who are absolute beginners and want to learn fast and have the time to do so every day.
Intensive individual course lasts 10, 20 or 30 hours, five times per week, 1 hour (60 minutes) per day, from Monday to Friday.

THE COURSE OF SLOVENIAN LANGUAGE – ABOUT THE TEACHERS
The course is carried out by professors of Slovene language of IZS (Educational Center for Slovene language). They gained pedagogical experience both at home and abroad. Due to their extensive teaching experience and good connoisseurs of contemporary learning methods and approaches, that they successfully use when teaching Slovene, absolute beginners and also those, who already know some basic Slovene, can improve there language skills (listening, reading, writing, speaking) gradually and thoroughly but in a fun and entertaining way.
